Employees get their homework Workers have joined the National Work from Home Day in an initiative which could have helped reduce congestion across the capital.

The events' organisers, Work Wise UK, previously said if even a small proportion take part then there would be reductions in traffic volumes and passenger numbers on public transport.

It is the second time the event has been staged - this year it coincides with the prime minister's acceptance of recommendations to extend flexible working rights.

Previously, only employees with young children were entitled to apply for dispensation to work from home.

"The right to request flexible working has been working for lots of people over the last few years," Gordon Brown said today, before extending the right to apply.

"It is working for parents of young children and now it can apply to children under 16 where families need time off to help bring them up," he said.
