Leicester Square site gets leisure-based scheme Leicester Square is to get a new building – a leisure-based development designed by Jestico and Whiles.

Constructed on the site of the Swiss Centre, the complex will feature a luxury hotel, commercial property and ten luxury homes.

The 19,500 metre squared scheme will provide a "fitting contribution towards the regeneration of Leicester Square and assist with driving further tourism and leisure business into the West End of London," says managing director of developers McAleer & Rushe, Eamonn Laverty.

Due to open in 2010, the mixed development replaces the previous building, which acted as a showcase for Swiss tourism and featured a famous figurine clock.

The BBC reported John Whiles, of Jestico and Whiles said of the new design: "By night, when the reflections of the day die, the building will quietly glow to match the sort of spirit of the West End's."
