London square wins regeneration award A square located in the heart of the English capital has been handed a prestigious award in recognition of its long-term regeneration benefits.

Bishops Square, which was completed two years ago, has scooped the 2008 British Urban Regeneration Association Award for Best Practice in Regeneration.

The Spitalfields-based square boasts ample commercial property and is home to the London offices of top law firm Allen and Overy.

Peter Cole, director of development and investment at Hammerson, which developed the square, told 24dash.com: "Bishops Square is an outstanding example of what private sector-led regeneration can accomplish.

"The scheme remains a popular community and business location and more importantly, the local community considers Bishops Square its own which is a major achievement."

Larger than the Piazza at Covent Garden, the square is also home to the famous Spitalfields market which is particularly popular with tourists.

It offers around 774,000 sq ft of offices and 43,000 sq ft of retail space.
