Barratt has been picked as the preferred developer for the redevelopment of Loampit Vale in Lewisham.
The town centre regeneration project will cost £226 million and will include a state of the art leisure centre – as well as 958 new homes. An Olympic-sized swimming pool, a gym and a café will all be housed inside the leisure centre.
Several commercial property units will be built, with these facing Loampit Vale and the City Mission. Many of these will be targeted at creative businesses. Work on the project will begin in 2008.
Barratt was recently awarded a contract for a £258 redevelopment at Canada Water and the £40 million Kerrin Point development.
"To win three schemes of this importance in such a short space of time illustrates the momentum which Barratt is now building in the capital," Alastair Baird, managing director of Barratt East London, commented.
"All three developments will bring enduring benefits to parts of London which have a pressing need for regeneration of the highest standard."
