Bupa has begun an 18-month investigation into the health of the British workplace.
Alongside the Oxford Health Alliance, RAND Europe and The Work Foundation, it hopes to asses current trends as well as the changing demographic of the UK workforce.
Dr Andrew Vallance-Owen, group medical director, explained: "The workplace has a key role to play in improving the nation’s health, not only by getting people back to work after sickness, but also by promoting positive health and wellbeing."
The project hopes to help employers bring policy and practice closer together to "look at the benefits of workplace health services to individuals, companies, the UK economy and health system."
"We look after the health of employees working in eight out of ten FTSE 100 companies and from our experience it is clear that better workplace health offers a ‘win-win’ all round."
The project is timed to coincide with the results from a government report, soon to be announced by Dame Carol Black, national director for health and work.
