The new office building currently being constructed on Canary Wharf will be the UK’s most environmentally-friendly, it has been claimed.
Five Churchill Place, the new 15-storey European headquarters of investment bank Bear Stearns should receive a Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) rating of excellent.
The office block’s sustainability has been prioritised right throughout its lifetime, beginning at the design stage. The orientation of the building has been examined through 3D modelling software in an effort to improve its environmental friendliness – and the interior design has also been carried out with eco concerns in mind.
The Forest Stewardship Council has approved all the timber used in the construction process and the building will also feature a green space, complete with flowers and shrubs, on its roof.
