D1 space is classified as a Non Residential Institution such as any Educational Premises, Surgeries, Day Centre's, Art Galleries, Museums, Libraries, Training Centre, Halls and Churches.
D2 space is classified as Assembly and Leisure: Cinemas, concert halls, bingo and dance halls, casinos, swimming baths, skating rinks, gymnasiums or sports arenas.
It is often argued that both D1 and D2 space are areas in property that can be misunderstood as they are dealt with by companies that do not specialise in what is an extremely specialist area of commercial property. As a result companies looking for D1 or D2 space are often under-serviced and do not receive the level of expertise required to put together commercially viable and competitive deals, as defined by a Tenant.
