Amazon set to move into 210,000 sq ft central London offices


Amazon is set to move into prime central London offices located near Smithfield Market it has emerged.

The online retail giant will move into the 210,000 sq ft London office space located at 60 Holborn Viaduct as it looks to expand into sectors including book publishing and television production.

The firm’s main UK headquarters will remain in Slough, but it is set to move several hundred of its staff to the new 12-storey premises. In total the London offices will have the capacity to house more than 1,600 employees

It is the second major property investment in the UK from Amazon this year, in July it opened a 47,000 sq ft centre near the Barbican to aid further development of LoveFilm – its on-demand video streaming service.

Amazon UK managing director, Christopher North, said: “This new office location will provide the space we require for hundreds of our existing employees as well as many more that we will hire in the future.”

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, praised the move.

He said: “This is excellent news for London’s continued growth as a leading global hub for tech talent.”

Construction on the offices is set to be completed later in the summer, with Amazon moving its staff in by the end of the year.
