DeVono Cresas London Retail and Leisure Market snippet

Philip Sandzer’s view of the future:

There will be even more food outlets, both A1 (Shops) and A3 (Restaurants and Cafes). The variety and choice is fantastic at the moment and will only get more diverse as we crave new tastes from around the world.

For me however, what I am seeing evolving is actually quite sad. As I travel around Europe, Asia and North America, the face of the High Street is beginning to look identical wherever I am.

Whilst I don’t have a problem with Global retailing, it is a fact that the power of the large cross-border retail groups and the willingness of the landlords to accept their higher rents and to an extent ignore tenant mix, is having a significant effect and driving away the individuality of the independents and  niche retailers.
