DLR development ‘delayed’

The development of the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) has been delayed.

Transport for London and Mayor Boris Johnson have defended their decision to postpone the extension.

A spokesperson for Mr Johnson rejected claims the Mayor had deliberately withdrawn developments in less affluent areas of the city.

"He is absolutely committed to ensuring the future prosperity of the capital and regenerating the areas in greatest need", Property Week reported the spokesperson said.

"The Mayor is aware of the concern that Londoners must be feeling at the constant stream of financial stories in the media," he went on.

Funding for the Olympic Village has hit yet another hurdle, with international credit difficulties hampering plans to secure a legacy for commercial property, built to support the Games.

Property Week has reported Mayor of Hackney, Jules Pipe said if more money was not found, "the physical legacy at the site in Hackney could be a fifth of what we originally envisaged".ADNFCR-1329-ID-18822072-ADNFCR
