Housebuilder Durkan Estates has begun consulting the Tower Hamlets community about its Gun Wharf site plans, Property Week has reported.
Planning consultants Dialogue, are talking to residents about the proposed build, which will take place between Old Ford Road and the Hertford Union Canal.
Dialogue partner Mark Brown said: "This project offers an excellent opportunity for creating residential, employment and leisure opportunities and we look forward to working with the local community in the process of evolving the final scheme."
The developer is hoping to provide commercial space along the road and fronting onto Gunmakers Lane. It will build 140-150 homes, some of them with five bedrooms and 35 per cent of the properties will be offered as social housing.
Planning applications will not be submitted until later this year and architects Stock Woolstencroft will be leading the design.
The new development is said to offer a safer tree-lined link to Victoria Park, which like other London parks, offers valuable open space to workers from city offices.
