The London offices of Pricewaterhouse Coopers are the first major offices in the UK to be awarded the BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ rating, the highest rating awarded under the BRE Environmental Assessment Method. The method is the leading and most frequently used assessment system to measure the environmental performance and sustainability of buildings.
The environmental design of buildings in the UK is increasingly being driven not only by modern awareness, but also by legislation, such as the Energy Performance in Buildings Directive. PwC worked closely on the office build with interdisciplinary design consultancy, BDP, to construct a building that surpasses the requirements of such legislation. Features include the use of concrete containing 80 percent recycled aggregate, production of 25 percent of energy on-site, and thermal regulation employing recycled waste heat.
The offices at the More London development, near Tower Bridge, comprise 500,000 square feet of London office space. The building will be ready for occupation in early 2011.
