A new initiative has been launched to help London businesses better measure and reduce their energy consumption. In conjunction with the London Development Agency, the Better Buildings Partnership has published an online resources pack aimed at helping managers of commercial properties improve their carbon footprint.
London’s commercial property accounts for around a third of the city’s carbon emissions. However, many buildings have multiple occupants who have different power requirements; since data is rarely gathered centrally, it is difficult to make efficiency savings.
The BBP provides simple starting points for ‘benchmarking’ energy use simply and easily – a vital step in making a building more environmentally friendly, but one that is often missed – before increasing complexity in subsequent stages. Benchmarking enables an organisation to pinpoint where the biggest savings can be made. The toolkit is designed to be used across buildings and larger portfolios.
