A neglected part of Leicester Square is to see a new cinema and hotel complex put in.
The plans for the 22,604 square foot space were given the go-ahead by Westminster City Council.
In the plans are a 240-bed hotel, street-level cafes and residential apartments as well as a rooftop restaurant which will replace the existing Odeon West End cinema.
A spokesperson for the Leicester Square Co-ownership Group said: "This will be a major focal point for Leicester Square bringing new life into a neglected corner of one of London’s landmark destinations and drawing people down to the National Gallery and Trafalgar Square.
"It will be an important contribution to the wider improvements to this area and help to connect two of the capitals most popular public spaces."
The new cinema will have two screens and be finished with a stainless steel front.
Work is expected to begin in the summer months of 2009.
