London offices set to benefit from Crossrail funding

Commuters working in London offices are set to benefit from the Crossrail project which has just been given a massive cash injection.

Airport operator BAA will splash £230 million on the project which will transport commuters from Heathrow Airport to central London, the City and Canary Wharf.

Transport minister Lord Andrew Adonis, who revealed the pledge made by BAA, said: “Crossrail is the largest addition to the transport network in 50 years and today’s announcement that BAA have confirmed a £230 million funding package for the project represents a major step towards its delivery.”

Businesses with commercial property in London are likely to benefit from the link which will allow their employees and clients to travel in and out of the capital more easily.

Describing Crossrail as a “vital new link”, BAA’s strategy director Mike Forster said: “Crossrail will be crucial in keeping London and the UK globally competitive.”

In all, the government plans to spend £5.6 billion on the transport project.
