Office design improving staff health


One software company’s new office space design has produced more benefits than originally intended.

The SAS Institute recently commissioned designs for a new sustainable office, which it hoped would bring it a number of commercial advantages. So far, the completed version has delivered on this issue – and has additionally stopped staff from sneezing, according to a report at

"In the IT sector employees are your main differentiator so you want to make sure they are in an environment that is comfortable and that sickness rates are down," president of SAS’s Canadian operations Carl Farrell told the website.

"Staff retention is also a key issue so environmental factors definitely have a business value."

The lower bills caused by the energy saving structural add-ons to the building’s design will repay the extra cost of construction in just five years, he added.
