Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has rented commercial property in Canary Wharf which will open as a restaurant in autumn 2009.
He and his team are hoping that the large number of London offices based in the region will help to bring in plenty of customers.
The new restaurant will be another branch of his Jamie’s Italian chain and will be located in Churchill Place mall.
Camille Waxer, vice president of retail at developers Canary Wharf Group, said: “In the next 18 months or so we have KPMG, Fitch Ratings and State Street all opening new office buildings nearby.
“The continued growth in the number of Canary Wharf visitors and workers requires the quality, quantity and variety of dining options to keep pace.”
Simon Blagden, managing director of Jamie’s Italian, added: “The Canary Wharf development is a fantastic place to be and I couldn’t think of anywhere better for our first location in inner London.”
Earlier this week US investment bank JP Morgan announced plans to open up its European headquarters in Canary Wharf.
