Public ready for green construction

The British public are ready to buy property that is more eco-friendly, a survey has revealed.

Standard Life has found 33 per cent would like to buy a house made totally from locally sourced material and four in ten would opt for a carbon neutral house.

Ruth Wilkins, head of communications said there are "many small steps Brits can take to make their homes more environmentally friendly".

"Increasing awareness of the environmental impact that our lifestyles may have on our surroundings could potentially change the look of our homes in the future," she predicted.

The research found that the public is already taking green issues more seriously, 78 per cent are either turning off or intending to turn off lights and seven in ten have stopped leaving their televisions on standby.

Three in five Brits would consider buying a house with solar panels and new offices in London are already utilising natural light and sustainable building techniques.
