Multinational construction and development company,Skanska has been appointed by AXA Real Estate and MPGA to construct new offices in London.
The 16 storey development at 6 Bevis Marks – which has been designed by Fletcher Priest –  is set to cost £115 million.
Now the demolition phase – funded by Eurohypo – has been completed, work will begin on the building; a glass-topped atrium and a uniquely designed “sky garden” are expected to be amongst 6 Bevis Marks’ key features.
It is hoped that the building – once completed in September 2013 – will be awarded a BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method) rating of Excellent.
Paul Heather, of Skanska, spoke enthusiastically about the development.
He said: “To be appointed as principal contractor for the construction phase of this innovative 170,000 sq ft new build development is a challenging prospect, but one that we relish and we are confident that, alongside AXA Real Estate and MPGA, we can deliver an outstanding and highly sustainable new office property onto the market.”
Located in the Square Mile, it is widely anticipated that 6 Bevis Marks will benefit from the lack of new build developments in the area.
UK director of development at AXA Real Estate, Harry Badham, also commented with a high level of expectation regarding the project.
“We believe Bevis Marks will provide an exceptional workspace and is being delivered at a time when new build space will be in short supply, further emphasising our ability to source innovative assets which have the potential to create significant value for our clients,” he stated.
