Transport for London (TfL) is looking to recruit a mains work contractor for its Crossrail Tottenham Court Road station upgrade.
TFL hopes the Crossrail will further improve the capital’s travel experience and bring more workers to offices in London.
It recently issued compulsory purchase orders on properties around the current station and hopes to realise the upgrade by 2017.
“This is certainly one of the biggest contracts to be tendered at this stage of the Crossrail project,” said a TFL spokesperson.
“By 2017, Tottenham Court Road will be one of the most important stations in the West End serving both London Underground and Crossrail.”
The first contract on offer is to expand the current station’s ticket hall by six times and double its capacity.
A separate contract to build the new station on the site will later be advertised.
TfL London’s spokesperson described the initiative as “one of the biggest contracts to be tendered at this stage of the Crossrail project”.
