Office workers could soon be facing solar powered computer screens, Macworld has reported.
It revealed workers at US computer giant, Apple, have filed a patent for integrating solar cells into computer displays.
By applying the technology to laptop computers, it could make them completely portable and do away with traditionally powered connections.
The patent proposes integrating a touch sensitive layer, display and solar panel in one screen.
Householders and builders have benefited from newly relaxed building regulations, which granted automatic planning permission for micro-generation technology.
"Installing small-scale devices has just become a lot easier for homeowners. Micro generation enables the concerned individual to become an active citizen in tackling global warming," said energy minister, Malcolm Wicks.
Property developers now have a range of technologies they can apply to help reduce buildings’ carbon footprints, including wind turbines and air source heat pumps.
